Correct method of walking for those suffering from Osteoarthritis of the knee Joint. The normal angle in the knee is maintained and loads are equally distributed around both sides of knee. The foot is turned outwards and the knee bends slightly forwards while walking . This is the correct way of walking especially after surgery to preserve beneficial effects of High Tibial Osteotomy
High Moment arm gait which causes increased loads on the knee. This is known as Dynamic Varus or Lateral Thrust. Here the knee stays back in extension when the heel strikes the ground and it thrusts outwards when seen from the front. This places greater loads on the Inner compartment of the knee joint.
